The Appeal
Whether you’re here for the Harry Potter associations or you just recognise a really good 60s saloon when you see one, we’re with you on both counts. The 105E Anglia channelled some serious reverse-rack windowed style to be one of the most distinctive saloons of its era.
These cars were particularly popular in South Africa in their later life, although survivors as good as this one are hard to find. It is a factory-standard car that has been carefully but sympathetically maintained and improved throughout its life. There is an older restoration and more recent cabin retrim and suspension rebuild, but otherwise, it is largely as it left the factory 63 years ago.
It has covered just 110,000 miles in its life, and its zippy 1L OHV engine is said to be in great order. The car comes to market with its correct registration and a current roadworthiness certificate. This lovely car would make a really characterful and stylish starter classic or a very usable addition to a collection.
The vendor says:
“Great fun to drive and remarkably easy too. Has amazing poke for a 1000cc motor. These old classics without power steering and synchros can be tiresome at times, but the little Anglia is light and easy with enough torque, rendering that lack of 1st gear synchro insignificant. Wherever you find yourself, you are quickly surrounded by admirers and smiles. Shouts from passersby are plentiful. A real joy!”
