The Attractions
When Lancia was taken over by Fiat, many loyal Lancia fans did not hide their disappointment. Lancia was a company with a glorious and fascinating history, famous for its refined techniques and original and courageous solutions, often all too original and courageous for its limited financial possibilities, and once it had entered the orbit of the Fiat group, not particularly famous for investing in cutting-edge technology, many were certain that the era of the unmistakable Lancia cars had come to an end...
These fears were certainly alleviated with the arrival of the Beta. Lancia's engineers were given a lot of freedom in developing the car, with the only request from Fiat's top management being to use the twin-shaft Lampredi engine. And it was certainly not an unwelcome request, since at the time it was considered one of the most brilliant and advanced four-cylinder engines in the world.
Within the splendid Beta range, our favourite is certainly the High Performance Estate. It was unveiled in 1972 and, although it was certainly not the world's first shooting brake, there is no doubt that the Beta HPE was one of the first cars to really believe in this very special type of bodywork, introducing it on a widely popular car and boldly proposing it to Italian enthusiasts.
This beautiful example retains its original livery and has a very authentic look and that absolutely inimitable character that only Beta can offer. The brakes have recently been overhauled and a new timing belt installed, so the car is ready to go with its next lucky owner.
