The Appeal
Morris were noting a bit of a sales slide as Ford began flooding the country with cheap, mass-produced cars, and they were far from above the idea of - ahem - 'taking inspiration' from rivals. The Morris Eight owed more than a few of its styling cues to the Ford Model Y, and clearly it worked - the car would influence Morris's future for decades, and turned them into one of Britain's biggest car builders.
Compared to the car's main rivals, the Morris was well-equipped and comfortable, with a full dash array, electric window wipers and a modern braking system that made for an altogether safer, more secure-feeling ride. It might not have broken any records, but it sold well over 160,000 units, and today is an immensely evocative little car.
