The Appeal
Hailing from a time when Mercedes-Benz was responsible for some of the greatest cars the world had ever seen, the Friedrich Geiger-designed W111 platform was the precursor to the S Class, a model line that would be used to showcase the very best innovations Mercedes-Benz had to offer. Paul Bracq was tasked with the Coupé and Cabriolet versions, and here we have a superb specimen of the latter from 1963.
The vendor tells us:
"494 GOW has been in my ownership since 2008. I am its 5th owner and the previous owners are listed below. It spent most of its 100,000 miles on the Isle of Wight and the service record is complete and done by Mercedes for this period.
"I bought the car to upgrade from a much-loved TR3 so as to accommodate our children and extend our enjoyment of classic motoring. My ownership and maintenance have been of weekend drives, annual services, MOT and predictive and necessary remedial work as recorded in the paperwork.
"It starts very well, runs smoothly, handles well and stops as it should.
It is stored in a framed Carcoon Veloce with battery charger - a wonderful design."
With seventeen years of care under the current owner and significant mechanical refurbishment including a complete cylinder head rebuild, this 220 SEB Cabriolet presents a wonderful opportunity.image.png4.28 MB
