The Appeal

It's fair to say that this Rolls-Royce proudly ticks plenty of boxes. This was one of the ultimate coach-built cars from the golden age of Crewe, built in very limited numbers on the more powerful Continental chassis. Handcrafted to a standard that placed them among the most exclusive motor cars of their day, they remain almost synonymous with exclusivity - and are fiercely collectable more than sixty years on.

This 1965 example wears a striking combination of Regal Red over a beige interior that has been retrimmed to a standard the vendor describes as being in very good order. It has been dry stored as part of a private collection dedicated to the Silver Cloud, and comes accompanied by what the vendor reports to be the most comprehensive history file they have encountered for the illustrious model, tracing the car's life right back to new.

Having recently been recommissioned - including attention to the brakes - this handsome example is reported to drive very well indeed. With bodywork, underside and paintwork all presenting well, this is a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable post-war Rolls-Royces in well-documented and carefully stored condition.

From its upfront grille to its impressive, subtle curves, one really gets the impression that this car was built for international appeal, and it's winning on all fronts. Some sixty years later, it's still a remarkable looker, and that vibrant red livery perfectly picks out those dramatic, luxuriant lines.

It's still bright and attractive, with no obvious dents or dings and nicely contrasting chrome, with the original set of colour-matched wheels. Everything looks as it should, which continues in the retrimmed cabin. While it's fresher than the car's build date, it's still garnered a charming, evocative patina that feels conducive with the car.

The wooden veneers look in fine age-commensurate order, and the instruments are all clean and legible. A fine place for driver and passenger alike.

The Silver Cloud III boasted a lighter kerb weight than its predecessor, and was amongst the first Rollers to be owner-driven rather than chauffeured. This proves even more true for the Continental, which offered an impressive turn of straight-line speed compared to the stuffy image Rolls-Royce had fostered in preceding years.

This handsome example is still proudly as-built, with the engine bay in good order and that drivetrain ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper.
