  • Extensively restored in California in 2014 with minimal mileage covered since
  • Rare factory options including air conditioning and a four-speed Sportomatic transmission
  • Finished in its original colour combination of Aubergine over beige with black targa top
  • Porsche Certificate of Authenticity on file

The Appeal

Produced during the brief window when Porsche transitioned the 911T from carburettors to the new Bosch K-Jetronic continuous fuel injection system, the '73 911T saw base horsepower climb from 130 to 148, making the 911T genuinely competitive with the pricier 911E. Noted Porsche authority Peter Zimmerman described the 911T CIS as Porsche's first '10' - the smoothest and most pleasant of all early 911s, with a responsive engine at all RPM levels and sufficient torque for almost any driving situation.
This particular Targa is a compelling example of that keystone car. It retains its original CIS engine and is specified with two rare factory options - air conditioning and the four-speed Sportomatic transmission - all verified by the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity held on file. It wears its original colour combination of Aubergine over beige with a removable black Targa top, and was extensively restored in California in 2014, with minimal mileage accumulated since.

In 2016, this handsome car completed a classic rally from Denmark to Skagen on the North Sea and back - some 3,000 km - without fault, having also benefited from over £9,000 of specialist attention at Paul Stephens and Prill that same year. More recently, it has been maintained by Porsche specialists at Old Factory Garage, with invoices on file covering servicing and a fuel injection system overhaul.
The vendor describes this 911T as being in very good condition throughout and wanting for nothing.

  • Service recommended due to lack of use since last summer, though reported to drive without fault on a recent road test
  • Always garaged throughout its life
  • MOT-exempt

The Condition

  • The vendor states the car is in very good condition throughout
  • Finished in its original colour combination of Aubergine with beige interior and removable black targa top
  • Fitted with Michelin XWX tyres and Koni shocks
  • Air conditioning compressor was overhauled and reported by the vendor to work faultlessly
  • LED front lamps fitted
  • UK-spec front and rear overriders fitted
The 911T may have boasted a change under the bonnet, but the familiar silhouette is exactly as it should be - curvy, simple and utterly iconic. This characterful example boasts a very attractive - and relatively scarcely seen - Aubergine livery, with a beige cabin and a black targa top. It's a nicely preserved, solid car, with a fine shine and nicely contrasting chrome.

Internally, the car is equally well-kept, with blush upholstery and clean seats, a well-presented dash and clean instruments. The door cards and carpets continue this theme nicely. It's a quintessentially '70s, comfortable place for driver and passenger alike.

The Mechanics

  • 2,400cc flat-six engine with Bosch K-Jetronic continuous fuel injection system
  • Semi-automatic (Sportomatic) transmission with four gears
  • Factory air conditioning
  • The vendor reports the engine as tight and refurbished along with the gearbox, brakes, and Fuchs wheels
  • New stainless steel exhaust fitted
The 911T CIS was immediately lauded as one of the best Porsches to date, with plenty of power on offer and the much-loved dynamics that we associate with the rear-engined sports car. The vendor reports that this one has been refurbished and is running exactly as it should.

Get those Targa panels off, explore that 148hp offering and you'll no doubt find yourself grinning from ear-to-ear. A rewarding classic if ever there was one.
