The Appeal
Toyota's MR2 revolutionised the company's image. Hitherto, Sagamihara's products were generally known for being dependable and sensible. Sure, they were racking out the odd diminutive little hatchback that could get a good turn of speed, but the idea of Toyota pushing out a sports car hardly seemed realistic.
Of course, in 1984 that all changed - and in 1989, with the second generation of the MR2, it was fully set in stone. This generation brought out much-improved styling, a larger engine and a far more comfortable cabin. The new car offered a visceral relationship between driver, car, and road, a fine turn of speed and plenty of 90s-era comforts. Little wonder, then, it's become a legendary modern classic.
This 1996 example boasts a beguiling livery, a plentiful paperwork file and a commendably low mileage - along with plenty of time on its MOT certificate. It's an excellent example of a truly iconic car, and we're sure it'll get plenty of attention at auction.
