The Appeal

It all began under a beach umbrella on Italy’s idyllic Adriatic Coast. There, Felice Bianchi Anderloni of Carozzeria Touring got together with his favourite designer of the time, Federico Formenti, to pen what became one of the greatest - and arguably most beautiful - GT cars of the post war era. The Lancia Flaminia GT coupe.

The new car was developed quickly because Lancia’s new owners, the Pesenti Group, wanted a flagship model to lure young, wealthy customers. The GT did exactly that. Built on a shortened Flaminia saloon chassis, just 1,550 of these handsome cars were handbuilt by Touring.

This one surely ranks amongst the best. It was subject to a £120,000 restoration between 2016 and 2021 by specialist Adam Redding and has covered less than 500 miles since. Everything received attention - engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, bodywork, paintwork and trim. The results are impressive, the car retaining its Lancia Blue factory colour mixed with a gorgeous Burnt Orange leather interior, which is close to the original brown faux leather.

The sparing use and a recent full service mean that the car is much as it would have been the day the work was finally completed. As such, it is a fantastic opportunity for the collector to buy a magnetically compelling Italian GT in top condition.

For a car designed in haste, the GT3C is a masterpiece. There are elements of contemporary design trends - such as the ‘Pagoda’ roof - but this car stands alone as a piece of art.

The colour scheme of this coupé’s certainly enhances the aesthetics. The dark blue paintwork is mixed with a lovely Burnt Orange leather cabin, all accented by neat chrome detailing and features such as a period radio and wood-rimmed steering wheel.

As you would expect from a car that has covered exceptionally few miles since a £120,000 restoration, it is in fine condition. The quality of that work is obvious from the panel fit and the paint’s lustre. It is in collector quality condition.

Much of the appeal of the Flaminia coupe is that it is not just a very pretty car. As you might expect from any car developed by Lancia in the immediate post-war years, it is a technological marvel.

Beneath the bonnet is the firm’s revered 2.5L V6, equipped with triple Weber carburettors that push power to a useful 138bhp. Well-balanced and powerful, the GT3C is real treat to drive.

This one in particular. Adam Redding Classic Cars fully rebuilt the mechanicals and running gear during the lengthy restoration. The vendor acquired the car shortly after completion and has covered just 221 miles in the intervening years, only using it on dry days. In between it is stored in a dry, climate-controlled and air-conditioned garage.

Prior to sale the car has been checked over and fully serviced. This identified work required to the fuel tank. It has been professionally cleaned, repaired and refitted.

The car arrives on the market in very good mechanical order with no known issues for the buyer to address on purchase.
