The Appeal
The Lancia Beta Spider is one of the more distinctive and elegant open-top sports cars of the 1970s, boasting Pininfarina-designed bodywork and an innovative targa-top configuration, there's no way around it - this is a quirky looker, with a familiar Fiat Lampredi drivetrain and a distinctive character of its own. The Beta family was a large one, and there's little doubt that the Spider - or Zagato, was it was dubbed in the USA - is a particularly unique sibling.
This particular example stands out as a rare survivor, being one of just 32 currently registered in the UK from the original production run of 9,390 vehicles. Having undergone a comprehensive restoration in 2018 that included a bare metal respray and mechanical refurbishment, as well as the fitting of a more powerful engine, there's little doubt it's in fine order, a true head-turning classic with better-than-factory performance.
Discovered in southern Italy in 2017 and imported to the UK in 2020, it offers the discerning collector a chance to own a seldom-seen Italian classic that combines distinctive styling with improved performance.iHLLpBN9LYnJf4357yQbAdiCyCI0kA6XduAcel2g Tim Hawkin.jpg110.7 KB
