Ridden just 2, 400 miles since its rebuild, this matching-numbers 1964 T120 Triumph 650 Bonneville starts first kick every time and is ready for its next adventure.
Restored with precision and care, the previous owner has lavished this example with an engine rebuild with Black Diamond valves and the lowest compression pistons that can be used with modern fuels. At the same time, the carburettors were bored and re-sleeved for reliability and the jets and needles were replaced.
Not stopping there, the sludge trap was cleaned out and the bearings were checked and replaced where necessarily. An external T140 oil filter was fitted to keep the sludge trap clean and a Tsubaki chain fitted. The fuel tank was cleaned at the same time and epoxy sealed to ensure any rust and leaks were removed.
Making sure it’s ready to be ridden day and night, the charging system has been upgraded to make sure that there’s better visibility and lighting (thanks to a 12 volt system) and being a later model it has duel leading shoe front brakes to ensure safety when stopping. It also benefits from an electric ignition and all ignition parts, wiring harness and connections are either new or were cleaned and protected with dielectric grease.
Once again showing that money has been no object when servicing and maintaining this example, the owner had the wheels disassembled one spoke at time to clean and polish them for a flawless finish. K70 Dunlop tyres and tubes were fitted to finish the setup. As many original parts have been used to keep the wheels’ originality. All the original usable nuts and bolts were cleaned and re used. Those that were not usable were replaced with stainless and lock nuts for reliability. It’s worth mentioning that no threads were changed, only through bolts were replaced.
Complete with matching numbers and with stacks of history from its rebuild and servicing works, along with a full copied and printed manual, this recently restored Triumph is ready to be ridden and enjoyed.
