The engine Ventoux 670 was introduced in 1956, at the launch of the Renault Dauphine, one of the main models equipped with this engine.
The more powerful versions are the most special, because it required deeper processing by Renault technicians, who are often taken advantage of Amédée Gordini genius. The version elaborated by Gordini, starting from the original engine, required machining of the cylinder head, which has led to obtain seats of the valves inclined rather than parallel, new springs for the valves, which allow a greater range but leaving intact the axis of the camshaft, the improvement of the cooling of the cylinder head and a new carburetor, together with the increase of the compression ratio.
