The Appeal
The 1960s saw huge shifts in car design, and over in Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz were beginning to develop that formula we now know established them as one of the best car manufacturers in the world. Via some clever unibody construction, the Ponton line were not only right-up-to-date and fabulously slab-sided, they were easy to manufacture, and became amongst the first truly mass-produced Mercs, with all manner of styles and formats rolling off of the production line and quickly being picked up by the growing executive market.
This particular diesel-engined Ponton stands out thanks to its comprehensive restoration, which was completed approximately 15 years ago. Since that comprehensive work, it's covered a remarkably low mileage of only 80 kilometres - and still presents very nicely. A fabulous example of a true keystone classic car.
