The Appeal
As the vehicle that got America hooked on the British sports car, we have a lot to thank the MG T Series for. American 'GIs' first experienced these little MGs during their time stationed in the UK, many of whom were sure to put in an order to the Abingdon factory upon their return to the US. The TC was MG's first post-war car, rushed into production within five weeks of the official end of the war in October 1945. Some 2,000 made their way across the Atlantic, including this lovely example from 1948.
The car remained in the US until 2000, when it turned up in California. Records suggest that it returned to Europe in 2003 and was the property of an Mr Rinck of Luxembourg before being repatriated to the UK by MG exponent Barry Walker in 2016.
The MG has since been restored to a high standard and the previous keeper acquired it in 2016. He then set about obtaining UK registration, which was easily obtained with the help of the MG Car Club. The MG has led a cosseted life and the restoration continues to hold up well.
Exceedingly clean chassis and underside with barely any road grime
Straight restored bodywork with glossy paint and chrome finishes
Minimal imperfections visible in the photographs and no notable wear reported by the vendor besides light patina commensurate with an older restoration
Black mohair hood and side screens present and in very smart order
Restored wire wheels
Retro-fitted indicators using flashing side lights
Red leather throughout, including door cards; all continues to present impeccably
Contrasting black carpeting with minimal wear visible in the photographs
Recent replacement rev counter; original included and possibly restorable
It's clear this MG has seen minimal use since restoration. The car continues to look its best, with no more than a light patina as befits an older restoration of a 77-year-old car. The colour scheme suits the period perfectly and the superlative quality of the restoration is abundantly evident from the photographs.
We're informed that the TC's engine fires up immediately and settles into a smooth tick-over with no untoward noises or excessive smoke. Gears engage freely with no clutch juddering in forward or reverse, while the car said to drive very well indeed, behaving as a TC should out on the road.image.png2.98 MB
