Retains its Renault Service breakdown vehicle livery
Stored in dry conditions since 1987
Remarkably original
The Appeal
The Renault Colorale Savane was designed primarily for hot-climate markets and stands out with its safari-style opening windshield and open rear windows, perfect for surviving in places like India. The Colorale's compact and familiar proportions are all present and correct, as characterful and likeable as ever. Of the 1,334 Savane examples built, very few are thought to survive—and the seller, a Colorale collector for around 30 years, tells us this is the only one he's ever seen offered in any condition.
This fine car served as a breakdown and towing vehicle at Garage de La Gare in Pornic, and still wears its full Renault Service livery with "D" marking for breakdown vehicle and a towing lamp. It's believed to have been withdrawn from service in 1987 and stored in dry conditions until the current owner acquired it in 2021. It's a restoration project—with perforating corrosion on the bodywork, a torn headliner, missing rear bench seat, and braking system requiring a complete overhaul—and the seller notes with pride just how complete and intact it is; a fabulous structure to begin a restoration. image.png1.08 MB
