The Appeal

The Daimler Consort DB18 bridged the gap between Daimler's distinguished pre-war engineering and its post-war ambitions. Introduced at the 1948 London Motor Show, the Consort refined the DB18 platform with modernised styling, including faired-in headlamps and a swept-back radiator grille, while retaining the marque's hallmark Wilson pre-selector transmission and fluid flywheel. With only 4,250 examples built before the model gave way to the Conquest in late 1953, surviving Consorts are increasingly scarce.

This example hails from the model's final production year and presents in maroon paintwork over a red leather interior with wood inlays. The current colour scheme was applied in October 2001, replacing the original black and grey, as confirmed by HPI. The interior and exterior show honest signs of age throughout. Beneath the bonnet sits the 2,522cc overhead-valve straight-six, an engine originally developed for the wartime Daimler Dingo Scout Car, mated to Daimler's four-speed pre-selector gearbox. With 20,145 miles indicated on the odometer, this Consort represents an opportunity to acquire a rare and characterful piece of post-war British motoring history.
