The Appeal
Harley Earl produced many four-wheeled masterpieces, but surely few were as masterful as the original Corvette. The car got a light refresh in ‘56 and a larger engine from ‘57, but otherwise, during its life, little needed to change about Detroit’s European-influenced sports car.
This gorgeous C1 is a very early ‘57 and one of the first 87 cars to receive the larger 4.6L version of the small block V8. It is mated to the very rare three-speed manual box, which was the standard option, yet most buyers opted for the optional auto. Finished in cherry red with white plus matching red leatherette cabin, it is said to be factory-correct across engine, gearbox and colour scheme. It is also in superb condition.
The beligum vendor acquired the car in 2010 from the USA. He tells us that it has always been stored in a heated garage when not in use and serviced regularly. The last service was in 2024. The carburettor and ignition system have been serviced recently.
This car’s condition is such that the many details of the original Corvette literally shine. You’ll spot an original wheel and a Chevrolet eight-track stereo in the photos. It is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a while and is both a credit to the owner and a treat for the buyer.
