The Appeal
The 1960 Citroën 2CV AZLP sits among the earliest iterations of Citroën's beloved 2CV, where AZ designates the 425cc engine model, L stands for Luxe (luxury trim), and P stands for Porte de malle (metal boot lid). Powered by the diminutive 425cc flat-twin and equipped with a host of characterful first-generation features, these early cars are increasingly scarce, and finding one in solid, usable condition is a genuine rarity.
This Bleu Glacier example was acquired from a gendarme based near Chartres, and both owners have kept the car garaged throughout their stewardship. The original paintwork has oxidised to a matt finish but remains presentable, while the wings were all replaced by the previous owner. Inside, the seat fabric, elastics and upholstery have been renewed, giving the blue interior a fresh feel.
On the mechanical side, the brakes have been overhauled, electronic ignition has been fitted, and the fuel tank has been replaced. The vendor notes an air leak on the fuel circuit that requires manual priming after extended periods of standing, and some cold-running splutter from a recently replaced ignition coil. It holds a valid French technical inspection until April 2028 and reportedly carries matching serial numbers under its collection registration; it is a charming early 2CV with honest patina and no shortage of Gallic character.
