The Appeal
This 1960 Saab 93B forms part of the carefully curated Blaauwbank collection that includes an eclectic mix of multi-generational cars, a selection of rare and interesting vehicles, carefully stored in purpose-built, climate-controlled dry storage hangars, located in the arid climate of Central South Africa.
Towards the end, SAAB used the aircraft connection as a marketing hook, but it didn’t start that way. The design and engineering of its early cars, like this 93B, were firmly informed by aeronautics - just look at its svelte teardrop profile to see what we mean.
This 93B with its single-piece windscreen was part of a small batch of cars imported to South Africa in 1960. In the intervening 65 years, it spent 50 of those with its first keeper, a dentist, before joining the collection of a keen SAAB enthusiast. Currently, it is part of the vendor’s large and eclectic collection.
Beautifully presented in dark red but finished inside this time in grey vinyl, it is reported to be a very original and highly preserved car. The South African climate has played a part here, as the care of its keepers.
The car comes to market with a useful recent check over. That resulted in work to the hydraulic system, a tune-up and a fresh service.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
