The Jaguar E-Type enjoyed a number of variants across its 14-year production run, but for certain enthusiasts and purists there's nothing that can beat the car we have here: an elegant Series 1 in its original colour scheme. This is a matching-numbers UK car too, which makes it eminently desirable to fans and collectors.

Since 2016, this E-Type has had over £74,000 spent on restoration, all of which is meticulously itemised in the huge history file. This included a full bare-metal repaint at a cost of over £12,500, as well as a new interior by Aldridge Trimming that came in at over £8000. A lot of thought has been put into usability, with the car being fitted with a period-style digital radio and a removable boss for the Moto-Lita steering wheel, and that glorious Webasto roof means that you can enjoy open-top E-Type thrills while retaining the arguably more stylish lines of the coupe body.

This Jaguar really is a joy to drive, and that lipstick red interior looks just right juxtaposed with the opalescent silver paintwork – it's a car which makes a very strong case for itself, and it's all backed up by a massive amount of paperwork. 

Aldridge Trimming have done a fabulous job with this high-quality retrim, with the seats now finished in soft red leather with red carpets to match. The doorcards are good, the switchgear is all operational, and the gauges work correctly, registering the right temperatures and pressures on the move. The Moto-Lita steering wheel is in excellent un-worn condition and is mounted on a snap-off boss to make it easily removable. The windows raise and lower as they should, and the doors close with a satisfying thunk. The car is fitted with a retro-style digital radio, along with uprated Blaupunkt speakers.
It’s all dry and tidy inside the boot, with a spare wire wheel under the boot floor and an impressive fully-stocked tool roll, plus the mallet for the knock-off spinners.
Externally, this E-Type is very impressive indeed. The opalescent silver paintwork, which was laid down in 2017, still looks remarkably fresh, and all of the chrome is gleaming. The shutlines are straight and true, and the light lenses and window glass are in good order. The car is fitted with a set of very tidy wire wheels, which are shod in matching Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres (a popular choice among Jaguar enthusiasts) with plenty of tread. The Webasto roof is in excellent condition, is simple to roll back, and latches easily and securely.

The 4.2-litre straight-six is a willing and eager unit, and this one is in fine fettle. Wearing triple SU carbs, it's a sonorous and torquey unit that fires readily into life, idles cleanly, and pulls with vigour through the rev range. You can see from the photos how impeccably tidy it is throughout the engine bay, and it's evident from what you can see as well as what you can read in the history file that much has been renewed here to keep it all ticking along as a thoroughbred 4.2 should. The 4-speed manual 'box is a slick unit that shifts cleanly, the car rides beautifully on its supple suspension (every inch the grand tourer, this one), and the brakes pull up straight and true. It really is a wonderful thing to drive, we'd highly recommend it!
