The Appeal
The original Midget was a sort of ‘grown up’ version of the Frogeye Sprite, one with a more spacious cabin and modern styling. But thankfully it lost none of the simple, rugged and no-nonsense fun of the original Sprite, which explains the enduring popularity of these easy-to-own classics.
The Mk3, introduced in 1966, was the longest-lived Midget. It gained the 1,275cc A-Series engine that was shared with the Cooper S but lightly detuned to improve reliability. Early cars like this one retained the squared off rear arches that purists prefer, making this 1967 car particularly appealing to enthusiasts. It is a really tidy example that sports an older repaint, still in very good order, and a well presented black interior with many original features.
The vendor acquired the car in 2022, shortly after it was awarded the last voluntary MOT. It was a clean, advisory-free test and the car has covered very few miles since. We are told that he has always garaged it. Recent work includes a new clutch in 2022 and a fuel pump and carburettor service in June 2026. The paintwork was professionally polished in 2024 and ceramic-coated. The car is said to run very well and remains unmodified.
Fun, reliable and backed by unrivalled club and parts support, any Midget is a gem of a buy. This tidy car particularly stands out.
The vendor says:
“A fun little car, lovely to drive, turns heads. Good usable classic. It also has a Hard top, Soft Top and Tonneau cover so suitable for any weather.”
