The Appeal
Classics really don’t get more accessible or usable than a good MGB. With unrivalled parts supply and excellent Club and specialist support, owning one is not dissimilar to having a modern car.
They are also perfectly suited to improvement too, as this car proves. It looks like a standard ‘71 chrome bumper B but hides a clever secret that improves its drivability and comfort. Its EasySteer adjustable electric power steering system is a change that, as any B owner will know, transforms the car’s usability. Along with the overdrive, it makes the car ideal for longer drives - the current owner has used it for trips to the Pyrenees, reportedly without fault.
DVLA records indicate that it is an older restoration. It presents very well in photos, no doubt due to the large history file which shows considerable ongoing expenditure since the mid 1980s. The vendor acquired the car in 2022 and has continued that process. There has been a thorough overhaul of the brakes, attention to engine gaskets and seals and a new clutch system. The smart painted wire wheels have also been refurbished.
The exterior is classic B while the interior has a few light modifications including carbon trim and additional switchgear. We are told that the car runs well with no faults. It will be sold with a fresh voluntary MOT for buyer peace of mind.
The vendor says:
“This really is a lovely little car. A joy to drive and never let me down. We have driven over the Pyrenees in it, and it has been faultless. The lovely thing with an MG, and indeed this MG, is the reliability, the ease of repair and the availability of the spares. Whenever I drive it, I have a smile on my face. The power steering makes it a joy on the tight turns of the European roads, and the overdrive lets it purr along nicely while keeping up with modern traffic when required. As an affordable all-round classic car, it is hard to beat.”
