The Appeal
If asked to name the most iconic leisure vehicle ever produced, the Volkswagen Type 2 would surely rank among the strongest contenders. Introduced in 1950 as Volkswagen’s second series-production model – hence the name – it remained in production until December 2013, an extraordinary lifespan spanning more than six decades.
Few vehicles have become as deeply embedded in popular culture. Equally at home transporting families on holiday, surfers to the beach or adventurers further afield, the Type 2 became a symbol of freedom, exploration and alternative lifestyles throughout the latter half of the twentieth century.
Offered here is a particularly unusual example, distinguished by its factory-fitted high roof. According to the seller, it originally served as a special delivery vehicle for the German postal service, which would also explain its right-hand-drive configuration, allowing drivers to exit directly onto the pavement.
Since being converted for leisure use, the high-roof design has brought significant practical benefits, including standing room within the cabin, improved living space and the addition of a high-level sleeping area.
Described by the seller as having been restored to a good standard, it is now ready to accompany its next owner on a host of adventures, from weekend escapes to journeys further afield.
