The Appeal
Once quintessential with day-to-day motoring, the Escort equally proved an immense success when it came to rallying and motorsport, thanks in no small part to its easy-to-handle dynamics and relatively light kerb weight. It's the sort of machine that exemplifies and defies its brief - indeed, despite being more expensive than many of its contemporaries, it rapidly became the best selling car in Britain and beyond.
As years have gone on, time has been rough on many remaining examples - but immensely positive for the Escort's population. It's become a popular, eminently drivable classic - a fine recapture of the sometimes-underappreciated era of the 70s.
This 1976 example is powered by a 1,300cc engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. It has been in the current owner's hands since 2020, during which time it has been stored responsibly and received annual engine servicing. A notable amount of mechanical refurbishment has been carried out across the fuel system, braking, and suspension, with new rubber window seals also fitted.
While it's not quite a showroom machine, it's ready and waiting to go - a car that could be enjoyed on the road as it stands or serve as a solid base for a more thorough restoration. O03A9771.JPG6.74 MB
