The Appeal
Much as we admire the timeless lines of the boxy W123 saloon, its transformation into a stylish pillarless coupé was inspired. These cars are highly engineered and virtually unburstable, and therefore make excellent touring companions.
The one you want is this car, the 280CE with the fuel-injected 185bhp 'M118' straight-six engine, allied to a relaxing 4G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. This car comes to market fresh from a vast amount of mechanical investment that included an engine rebuild by a marque specialist that cost over €11,000. Other work has included brake, suspension, fuel injection and ignition system overhauls. You can see how fresh this work is from the photos. We’re told that the car has covered just 2,000 km since completion.
The total mileage is reported to be under 98,000 km, which likely explains why this attractive car remains in such good condition. The Astral Silver paintwork has received a recent refresh, while the black leather interior, with its smart Zebrano wood veneers, is also well-preserved. The engine and gearbox have been recently serviced, and there is a current Polish technical inspection valid to July 2026.
The trick when buying any classic is to find one where someone else has put in all the work. Here is just such a car.
The vendor says:
“Top quality coupé with amazing state, never rebuilt body and 97,500 km on the dash.”
