The Appeal
With its striking, angular lines, courtesy of Pininfarina, the Ferrari Mondial sits somewhere between Grand Tourer and supercar - a bit of a limbo that's to its credit. It's now eminently more accessible and drivable than many of its more famous counterparts, and it's aged beautifully.
The brief for the car was, on paper, pretty simple - a more family friendly Ferrari with a higher roofline and rear occasional seats that could carry a couple of diminutive passengers. The resulting car was a larger, altogether heavier car than that it replaced - the 308 - but you could argue that the silhouette felt very familiar.
Powered by the trusted Dino V8, this was the last 2+2 Ferrari with a rear mid-mounted V8 under the bonnet. It many respects, it was the most civilised Ferrari ever built when it first hit the market, and you can see its influence in the modern four-seater range of today's Maranello offering.
This particular example has been with its current owner since 1989, and has recently been recommissioned for the road. It's covered a remarkably low mileage, is highly original, and still offers that trendsetting combination of comfort and practicality that set the template for Ferrari's future. image.png3.68 MB
