The Appeal
Near the end of the R107’s production run, the car benefited from two major upgrades that set the most recent versions apart. First of all, the arrival of the brand-new 3.0-litre M103 straight-six engine, offering a better balance between performance and fuel consumption. Then, these cars were fully galvanised at the factory, making them markedly more durable than earlier versions.
This elegant 1986 black 300 SL combines both of these qualities, while also having spent all of its life on Japanese roads, shielded from salt, before its recent arrival in Europe. That very likely explains why it’s in such good condition, just as it does its low mileage of under 81,000 miles.
We’re told it has been well cared for and that it starts and drives without any issues. Presented in a highly desirable configuration and fitted with the much-coveted rear-bench conversion, this car is sure to win over enthusiasts.
