The Appeal

Originally pitched as a 911 replacement, the Porsche 928 is one of the great front-engined grand tourers of the 1980s. Powered by a silky V8 and designed for effortless high-speed cruising, it offered a very different proposition to the 911: more refined, more relaxed, and arguably no less capable. The 4.7-litre S variant, with its four-speed automatic transmission, remains a fine way to cover ground quickly and in comfort.
