The Appeal
The XJ-SC is a canny buy for the XJS enthusiast because it combines a versatile, structurally robust cabriolet roof with a 2+2 layout. Just 1,088 were sold with the reliable 3.6L straight-six engine. These cars also got a 4spd automatic gearbox, rather than the V12’s 3spd, which provides more tractability and better high-speed cruising. This 1987 3.6L was one of the last to leave the factory.
Finished in smart silver with a grey fabric and leather cabin, it is a low-mileage, well-kept car. The vendor bought the car in 2004 and is only the fourth keeper. We’re told that he has recently spent £3,000 on maintenance, including new tyres and repairs to the handbrake. It carries current MOT to July 2026.
The XJ-SC has the practicality of the coupe with the open-air appeal of the convertible. This late-model car has clearly been cherished.
