The Appeal
This XJ-SC is one of the rarest and most versatile versions of Jaguar’s long and lithe GT. The automatic gearbox option was only available for the Xj-SC with the tough 3.6L AJ6 engine from 1987 to 1988 with XJS Club records indicating that just 85 were built in RHD.
This car further dials up the rarity with its Signal Red paintwork, believed one of three produced in this colour, and desirable rear seat conversion. It has covered just 43,000 miles from new, the low figure largely due to long term storage between the early 1990s, when the current keeper acquired the car, and 2025. The result is a very tidy and nicely presented car. It remains largely factory standard save for that rear seat and a set of chrome wire wheels on standard hubs. As a later car, it is fitted with the updated 4spd automatic gearbox.
We are told that the car was recommissioned after storage in 2025. The work included attention to the fuel system and a new battery. It comes with MOT to June 2026.
The vendor says:
“A charming and highly usable example of the model, combining low mileage, long-term dry storage, and recent recommissioning. It drives as a relaxed and refined grand tourer, perfectly suited to weekend use and longer, easy journeys. The standout features are its colour combination, originality, and the sense of having been carefully preserved rather than restored. A very appealing car that sits at the nicer end of the spectrum without being overdone.”
