The Appeal
This is the kind of R107 you hope to find - one in the right spec and where someone else has put in all the investment. That expenditure is recent, meaning that as a buyer you get the full benefit.
Since 2018, this Smoke Silver metallic 300SL has received over £25,000 of work, primarily by well-known specialists like the SL Shop and Autoclass. The work has included body repairs and a full bare-metal respray, a cabin retrim in correct beige leather, and extensive mechanical renovations. In late 2025 and early 2026 alone, the car received over £7,700 of mechanical work by Autoclass, including a full service. The extensive history file shows regular maintenance by main dealers and specialists throughout the car’s life.
The vendor bought this low-mileage car in 2025, intending to keep it, which explains the extensive work. Sadly, circumstances have changed, and it is now for sale. Savvy buyers will likely need no reminding that if you plan to use and enjoy your R107, this is the SL to have - the reliable and economical 185bhp 3L straight six and the later galvanised body. The icing on the cake is an advisory-free MOT to May 2026.
The vendor says:
“Result is that the vehicle looks and drives beautifully, sounds right and with the replacement 16inch wheels on Michelins all round handles well - an all round splendid convertible in top condition, ready for summer use with a minimum of foreseeable future mechanical or cosmetic expenditure necessary.”

The vendor says:
“First registered 01-08-1988 as F477LPJ. 4 previous keepers, two long term. This car had only been driven some 800 miles since 2018, during which time much body, interior and chassis restoration had been carried out (including by SL Shop). I purchased it in 2015 and carried out a very comprehensive mechanical recommissioning through Autoclass of Milton Keynes, a marque specialist. Due, however, to a change of circumstances, the car is reluctantly offered for sale in a substantially improved mechanical and cosmetic condition.”

Full bare metal body refurbishment and repaint in original Smoke Silver was carried out in 2020, costing £13,395.00, including some chrome work replacement.
