The Appeal
The biggest-engined R107 was reserved for America, the car’s main market and the one it was designed for, namely to rumble discreetly along its vast Interstates for mile after mile. We’re talking about the 560SL, the R107 with the 5.5L 230bhp engine shared with Mercedes’ flagship, the W126 560SEC.
These cars are beginning to return to Europe, where enthusiasts want what is considered the ‘ultimate’ R107. This 1988 560SL is barely run in for one of these M117-engined cars and handsomely finished in blue black metallic with complementary grey leather interior. As a later R107 it benefits from a galvanised body.
The car is in good, usable condition and looks ready for a summer road trip.
