The Appeal
Honda didn’t mess about with the name - the original Legend really was as good as its name suggested. Rover built the first cars, but not well enough to meet Honda’s exacting standards, which tells you all you need to know about the car and this magnificent survivor.
The handsome, unassuming Legend Coupe was a clever spin on the executive saloon theme and it spawned many imitators. Yet these were expensive cars when new and so this low mileage, highly original 1989 V6 is one of the best of the handful of survivors.
Beautifully finished in a silvery champagne metallic, it has covered less than 76,000 miles in its 36 years, most of them as part of the same family. It is highly preserved, just some very light bolster wear to the high specification ‘Exclusive’ interior, betraying any sense of use. Neat original features like the high end ‘Tendo Mokko’ veneers and Panasonic radio remain.
The vendor acquired the car in 2014 and has used it sparingly. It is said to run and drive very well and will be sold with a fresh 12 months MOT. As usable as it is show-able, this is a real find for 80s coupe enthusiasts.
The vendor says:
“These are pretty rare now and even more so in this condition. Mine is totally original apart from the uprated stainless steel exhaust I added when the original failed. It even has the original stereo and floor mats, all in amazing condition.
“The car drives exceptionally smoothly for a 35+ year old car. Honda engineering at its best.
“The car is in great shape, a few aged related marks here and there but nothing significant.”
