The Appeal
In many ways, the Jetta GT is the connoisseur’s choice when it comes to sporting cars based on the Mk2 Golf platform. Tastefully understated - some might call it a sleeper - this 139bhp booted GTI has all the attributes of its hatchback cousin, but wrapped in a much rarer saloon body.
This 1989 is one of the few surviving ‘small bumper’ Jetta GT 16Vs, finished in suitably subtle black with a grey cloth cabin. The car is pleasingly factory standard, including Volkswagen alloys, period radio/cassette and grey cloth sports seats. We’re told that it has been recently extensively recommissioned after a period of storage. The vendor says that “everything that needed to be done, was done.” The result is a car in impressive condition, including the usual areas that you would want to check on a Jetta.
The car comes with a large history file and lengthy, advisory-free MOT to 27th November 2026. This is one for the drivers, a very tidy and highly usable 80s Volkswagen rarity.
