The Appeal
That this Mercedes 560SEC cost the equivalent of a Rolls-Royce when new tells you all you need to know about its engineering, quality and just how good it is. The 5.5L 240bhp V8 model was the pinnacle of the firm’s 80s Imperial phase, when the engineering team were firmly in charge.
This 1990 car was built for the USA market but acquired by the current French keeper in Bulgaria. Since acquiring the car he has spent €20,000 renovating it, with invoices from specialists to prove it. The work has covered the cosmetics as well as the mechanics. Notable highlights include a full respray in Smoke Silver metallic, interior retrim in correct beige leather, new switches and new carpets. Mechanically, the brakes, suspension and gearbox have received attention. The car naturally carries a long Controle Technique valid to August 2027.
The 560SEC is very collectable, but they rarely come to market as sparingly used and as recently improved as this example.
The vendor says:
“The vehicle is not unique or perfect, but it has undergone significant restoration, has a very nice exterior and interior, good smooth and quiet mechanics, and everything is functional except for the air conditioning, which needs to be reviewed.”
