The Appeal
To date, the Mondial remains the last mid-engined 2+2 to be produced by Ferrari. First introduced in 1980, it combined the powertrain of the marque’s contemporaneous V8 two-seater with a more spacious cabin underneath a Pininfarina-penned and Scaglietti-produced body, enabling up to four occupants to enjoy the invigorating experience. Released in 1989, the Mondial t represented the biggest change in the model’s history and became its final iteration. In addition to a larger, 3.4-liter engine, the Mondial t received a transverse gearbox, as well as wider tracks, ABS, power steering and three-position electronically controlled suspension. It is widely considered to be the most capable and refined of all Mondial models.
Registered in 1991, this Mondial t coupe is finished in classic Rosso Corsa red, complete with yellow Scuderia shields, with a black leather interior and red carpeting. The seller states that they purchased it in 2015, and three years later – at a cost of over £5,000 – gave it a full service and belt change, and replaced many parts.
The car has not been used since 2022; during that time it has been stored in a barn. The seller notes that the car will need a full service and belt change, and that an issue with one of the front brake calipers will need to be resolved. It would also benefit from some cosmetic tidying. The interior, notably the black leather seats, shows some patina but is complete.
The seller notes: “It's a great car with direct steering, firm but pliable suspension. Overall, it's a great modern classic and a family-friendly Ferrari - it drives like a much more modern car, feels surprisingly fast, and has loads of space for four people.” With some attention, this desirable coupe will provide its new owner with rapid, practical driving pleasure.
