The Appeal
If you know, you know. And, if you’re here, then you likely already know. But just in case you don’t, this car really is something special for Volkswagen enthusiasts. The Rivage was built as a limited edition, farewell model for the UK market and marks the swansong of the original Mk1 GTI.
There are, however, Rivages and then there is this one. Of the 470 built, only 218 were specified with this car’s blue cloth interior. All were finished in Classic Blue metallic with 15in Le Castellet alloys. What makes these cars special is that, unlike Rivages with leather trim, they retained the 112bhp version of the 1.8L fuel injected GTI engine. Leather-equipped cars made do with 95bhp.
Estimates indicate that just 40-60 Rivages in this specification remain on UK roads. We suspect that this car is amongst the best. The large history file supports the low displayed mileage and shows a run of servicing stamps with few miles since the last attention. The current MOT is valid to July 2027 with no advisories.
We know that any classic Veedub always commands a following. The Rivage is one of the firm’s most collectable and this example particularly impressive.
