The Appeal
There have been many hairy-chested British sports cars over the last century, but the TVR Griffith is surely one of the most intractable and intoxicating. Remaining in production for an unusually lengthy twelve-year period, just 600 of these cars were fitted with the big TVR-tuned 5L 340bhp V8, which is deliciously fast - 60 arrived from standstill in 4seconds.
This 1993 Griffith 500 retains the traditional fibreglass body, described by the current owner as being in “good condition but not concours." The paint is complemented by the factory seven-spoke wheels, which have been recently fitted with new rubber at the rear. A folding canvas soft-top provides some shelter from the elements, but this is very much a car to drive with the top folded down, so you can revel in its soundtrack.
The current keeper acquired the car in 2011 and has kept the mileage down to just 50,000 miles. The service book shows regular attention by TVR main dealer TVR Centre in the car's early years and then by specialists in more recent years, primarily X Works. Recent attention includes replacing the outriggers and Bilstein shocks in 2022 at a cost of £4,500. Other work has included overhauling the suspension, replacing the steppa motor and gearbox mounts. The car carries advisory-free MOT to the end of August 2026.
Any Griffith is a raw treat, but the 500 is a peach. This enthusiast-owned and properly maintained car has the investment and sparing use buyers surely hope to find.
The vendor says:
"A very useable car in quite good condition that is ready to be driven and enjoyed."

✓ The seller is registered as a private seller which means consumer rights stemming from EU consumer protection law do not come into effect. However, you are still covered by Car & Classic’s own Terms and Conditions..
✓ We request that a non-refundable fee be paid if you are the lucky winning bidder at auction or if your offer is accepted Please refer to our helpful FAQs and T&Cs for specific rates.

✓ VAT is included in the buyer's fee. VAT may or may not be included in the final bid or offer price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
