The Appeal
Powered by Mercedes-Benz's 5.0-litre M119 V8 and built to Mercedes-Benz' then legendary standards, the R129 SL500 has rightfully gone down as one of the best of the marque's roadsters. It offered a blend of effortless performance, refinement, and long-distance capability that remains eminently drivable and capable on today's roads. Well-preserved examples are now firmly established as modern classics.
This 1995 example is finished in the handsome combination of Tourmaline Green metallic over cream leather - a pairing that suits the R129's elegant proportions particularly well. It carries notable provenance, having been owned by the then Chairman of the Mercedes-Benz Club, during which time it covered some 45,000 miles and participated in the club's 2010 Monte Carlo Rally.
The current owner purchased the car in April 2024 and, following a comprehensive specialist inspection by The SL Shop and subsequent remedial work, drove it on a 3,500-mile honeymoon tour from the UK to the Amalfi Coast and back through France, Switzerland and Germany. It has remained in regular use since as a cherished weekend car.
The car has benefited from cosmetic attention including professionally refinished front and rear bumpers and paintwork correction, while a new starter motor has been fitted. Supplied with its factory colour-matched hardtop, protective cover and stand, and accompanied by an extensive history file, this SL500 is ready and waiting for its lucky new keeper.image.png1.62 MB
