The Appeal
The Mini Cooper 35th Anniversary edition marked three and a half decades of one of motoring's most celebrated partnerships, with just 1,700 examples produced in 1996. Of these, 1,500 were shipped to Japan with the addition of factory air conditioning, this car being one of them. With only 200 retained for the UK market, these limited-edition Coopers are increasingly sought after, and Japanese-market examples offer the bonus of climate control.
Our car returned to the UK in 2014 through Port Glasgow and has been in the current vendor's care for approximately four years, having been purchased from a former keeper who served in the REME and carried out her own servicing. During the vendor's ownership, it has been used solely for classic car shows and kept garage-stored away from the elements.
The vendor states the engine is faultless, starting first time and pulling strongly. Performance upgrades include a full Maniflow exhaust system, Spax adjustable shock absorbers, Minifins, and a sump guard. Inside, a new walnut dash has been fitted alongside a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, while the original dash, mirrors, and steering wheel are all included in the sale for those wishing to return the car to standard specification.
