The Appeal
The original XK120 was honed with Wiliam Lyons’ usual eye for detail and with a firm focus on Le Mans success. It delivered there and with road buyers, who have ever since rated it one of the best-looking of post-war cars. For classic enthusiasts looking to mix those evocative looks with a more modern, usable driving experience, from 1998, there was Nostalgia Cars. Based in Taunton and with years of specialist coachbuilding experience, the firm began offering a dimensionally accurate, highly detailed replica of the XK120.
The photographs of this car show just how carefully they worked on the lines and stance. For all but experts, it is hard to tell the difference between this handsome replica and an original. The car was built in 1999 at considerable expense for a wealthy farmer as a gift to his wife. Finished in dark silver metallic with burgundy leather, it is a really fetching car that remains in great order.
The underpinnings are pure Jaguar, the car taking its identity from a Series 3 XJ. We are told that the fuel-injected 4.2L XK straight-six engine has been fully rebuilt and balanced with larger valves. The automatic gearbox has also been rebuilt, including modifications to take the extra power. Likewise, the Powerloc LSD has been overhauled and fitted with stronger plates.
The vendor acquired the car in 2020 and has used it for regular long-distance European tours. A quantity of spares, event plaques and Jaguar-branded clothing are included. The large history file attests to the car’s care by this and previous keepers, including a recent service. With advisory-free MOT to April 2026, here is a chance to acquire a highly detailed, carefully maintained and very usable evocation.
The vendor says:
“It is brilliant to drive, far better than original and much safer. I would have kept it and used it. But sadly health issues will not allow this.”
