The Appeal
Much like the R107 that preceded it, the R129 SL enjoyed a long production run, always popular and stunningly well engineered this elegant roadster captured the hearts of the rich and famous as well as the enthusiast. Most two-seater convertibles on the market were rudimentary (and often rather fragile) sports cars, the Mercedes-Benz SL was beautifully engineered, solidly built and supremely capable. A modern classic in every sense of the term, the R129 makes a reliable daily driver as well as a luxurious feel good car for those high days and holidays.
The final iteration of the R129 series received a huge facelift in 1999, which ushered in the refined yet powerful V6 3.2 L M112 engine mated to a silky smooth five speed automatic gearbox, revised bumpers, updated alloys and Nappa Leather. More complete than the underpowered SL280 and almost as powerful as the SL500 this really was the sweet spot in the range.
Which brings us to this fine example of such a 129, with just 21000 miles on the clock from new, boasting a colour coded Panoramic Glass Roof – the single most desirable of R129 options. Finished in a stunning colourway of Green Black Metallic (189) over Cream Beige Nappa Leather and Black soft top, perhaps the most coveted of all colour schemes for this elegant roadster.
Impeccably presented throughout and complete with an advisory-free MOT valid until 2027, this rare and superb ultra low mileage SL awaits its next custodian. The R129 is amongst the most desirable and usable of drop top modern classics. Whether you choose to drive it or simply admire it, this is a rare opportunity indeed.

The later V6 3.2litre is a particular good fit for the R129 because it delivers an appealing mix of performance and economy. Later cars like this one got the 5spd automatic gearbox that improves high speed cruising and fuel use.
It is sold with full service history. It was last serviced at 20,570 miles and has covered very few miles since that work in 2025.
