The Appeal
Launched to commemorate rally legend Tommi Makinen’s fourth consecutive World Rally Championship victory in 1999, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI TME offered fans the chance to own something with similar performance and looks to the winning car. Makinen himself lauded its “beautiful balance between all performance parameters”. These cars are coveted amongst collectors and are challenging to find, especially in such good condition as the example we offer here.
Imported from Japan in July 2021, it’s in exceptionally good original condition and the vendor reports that it’s amazing to drive with everything still working exactly as it should. The bodywork and paint look almost flawless and has been polished to a vibrant shine. The interior, in black and red with Recaro upholstery, is in very good condition, with only slight wear on the driver's seat.
Equipped with an aerodynamic body kit from the factory, akin to that used on Makinen’s car
The original bodywork looks in superb condition for its age
Polished to a vibrant shine, showcasing the lovely condition of the paintwork
Period-correct vinyls and body kit in very smart order
The underside looks fantastic, benefitting from dry storage and Japan’s salt-free roads
Well-preserved and impeccably presented interior
The driver's seat shows only slight signs of wear
The undercarriage is in very good condition
No signs of corrosion anywhere to be seen
The wheels are reportedly in excellent condition and look great in white
There’s a real sense of drama to how this car looks and it’s incredible to think that it had all these rally-bred appointments straight out of the box from Mitsubishi. Equally remarkable is its condition, benefitting from a life spent on Japan’s salt-free roads. The vendor informs us that it has been kept indoors since new, which has really paid dividends when it come to the car’s preservation.
You’d imagine that most buyers would have sought to emulate Makinen’s off-road antics, and yet it appears this car has seldom strayed from the beaten track when you look at the state of the underside. All appears utterly devoid of corrosion or damage, which is amazing for a car of this age and nature.
Optimised for optimum performance and handling on tarmac
Five-speed manual gearbox
No mechanical issues reported
The vendor states that it drives exactly as it should
To truly appreciate this car, you’ve got to get behind the wheel and the vendor reports that the next owner is in for a real treat. These TME cars were optimised for on-road performance and extensively tweaked from the factory to get the most out of every drive. The vendor reports that this example is in rude health, with no issues or untoward noises to report. All that’s left is to attain an MOT certificate.
