The Appeal

When first brought onto the market in 1997, the 996 was a car that upset purists, but made a huge impact worldwide. With the departure from air-cooling, it was fair to say that the car’s mechanical modifications raised eyebrows - but led to an efficient, emission-compliant, water-cooled powerplant that has more than managed to prove its worth. Since then, the 996 has proven a highly desirable machine, that’s only grown more popular as time marches on.
This example is highly original, with fairly low mileage and a beautifully kept interior. This is an excellent, well-maintained example of the much-loved sports car, that’s ready and waiting to return to the road. 

The History and Paperwork

  • Sadly we don’t know very much about the history of this car pre-2017
  • First registered in 2001
  • In current ownership since September 2016
  • Currently indicates 87,474 miles, which is genuine according to the paperwork
  • The vendor provides a full paperwork file from 2017 to the current date
  • This includes:
    • Three latest MOT certificates
    • V5c document
    • All original booklets and manuals
    • A full collection of invoices from 2017 to 2023

The Interior

  • Original interior in black leather 
  • All seats are in good condition, with only gentle wear
  • Door cards present well with some scrapes and marks around the handles
  • Dashboard is in excellent condition with all instruments clean and easy to read
  • We can’t spot any significant marks, scuffs or damage to the dash
  • The vendor notes that the glove box and vanity mirror hinges have suffered plastic fatigue
  • All controls and instruments are reportedly in good working order
  • Carpets and headlining are clean and well-presented
  • The ‘Frunk’ is in good order, concealing a red spare wheel

The Exterior 

  • Original blue paintwork
  • Bodywork is in good order with no significant dents or dings we can spot
  • Some light marks, chips and scratches to the paint, though nothing very significant
  • As expected, the wear is greater around the arches and sills
  • All glasswork and lenses present well with no chips or fractures
  • Porsche branding is all present and correct
  • The car is sitting on its original branded alloys
  • These are shod in Pirelli tyres, which are reportedly brand new
  • Underneath, the car is in fine fettle with no major faults we can spot

The Mechanics 

  • Powered by a 3.4L water-cooled flat-6 engine
  • 6-speed Getrag G96/00 Manual transmission
  • In May the car was serviced with new oil, filters, spark plugs and coils
  • The exhaust is original
  • The car is running on a new battery
  • The car has an advisory for some perishing to the rear brake disc
  • We’ve been informed of no mechanical faults with the vehicle
  • The vendor reports that the car is starting, shifting, steering and braking well

Summary

Nicely presented, with all of that early-2000s luxury on display, this Carrera is a real looker - and offers a great opportunity to take on one of Stuttgart’s finest.
