The Appeal
Future Bond Daniel Craig made the C5 RS6 Avant famous in Layer Cake, but when it came to choosing his personal wheels, he picked an S6 estate. And with good reason - these cars share exactly the same subtle widebody styling and are nearly as quick as their twin-turbo siblings but are simpler and therefore more reliable.
The understated style of these 335 bhp 4.2L V8 super estates has stood the test of time well, as this nicely preserved 2002 S6 proves. Finished in handsome Ming Blue with a light grey leather cabin, it has had just three keepers from new, the current one since 2015, and has been very well maintained. The service book shows 19 stamps running to May 2025 and under 3,000 miles ago. The current lengthy MOT underlines the point with no advisories.
The car presents well inside and out. There is some of the usual C5 wear to the switchgear inside, but it is not unsightly. The car is largely standard save for a modern Pioneer touch screen head unit.
Quick, comfortable and hailing from a time when Audis seemed to be hewn from stone, this is a proper find for enthusiasts with dogs, people or simply stuff to carry.
