The Appeal

Even by American automotive standards, the Cadillac Escalade is unapologetically imposing. Measuring more than 5.6 metres in length, over two metres in width and weighing upwards of 2.6 tonnes unladen, it is an unmistakably full-size vehicle that has become deeply embedded in popular culture through countless appearances in rap and hip-hop lyrics and music videos.

The EXT variant proved a particularly shrewd addition to the range, combining the Escalade’s instantly recognisable SUV styling with the added practicality of a versatile pick-up bed, complete with a clever midgate arrangement allowing the load area to extend into the cabin when required.

Never officially sold in the UK, this example was nevertheless imported and registered in the country in September 2004, offering the uniquely American blend of V8 performance, plush leather-trimmed comfort and undeniable road presence. Bold, charismatic and impossible to ignore, it perfectly captures the larger-than-life character for which the Escalade became so famous.
