The Appeal
The Toyota Land Cruiser has always been an imposing vehicle, but its early Noughties iteration looked particularly striking. When finished in black paint with privacy glass, it cuts a dramatic figure – all the more so when you consider this is a car that could tackle the school run or travel halfway around the world with equal ease.
This one-ownerAmazon VX 4.7 V8 from 2002 is one of the few cars ever to combine a built-in satellite navigation system and a cassette player as standard, though there is a CD changer to complement the tape deck. The factory-standard interior is a mixture of wood and leather, with the latter showing some signs of wear along seat edges. The dashboard appears to have shrugged off use, and the current owner states no issues with the mechanicals or gearchange, with the 4.7-litre V8 reportedly sitting comfortably at warm idle.
As might be expected on a car that’s covered 125,000 miles over nearly a quarter of a century, the thickly applied black paintwork bears scuffs and scratches, with some UV degradation in places. The five-spoke alloy wheels also bear the odd scuff but are in good condition, all shod in matching Dunlop tyres.
Two insurer-handled repairs are fully documented. In 2017 Inchcape Toyota renewed the front bumper and offside front wing and repaired the nearside front door. In December 2019 localised damage to the nearside rear led the insurer to record a Category S total loss on an agreed value; the owner retained the car and Andy's Autobarn repaired the rear door and quarter, wheel arch, sill and inner wheelhouse in early 2020, followed by sealing, undersealing and refinishing. The insurer letter, pre-repair photographs, estimate and final invoice are available to view. image.png1.72 MB
