The R230 first met the general public as a Safety Car for Formula One at the 2001 German Grand Prix. It was the world's first preview of what's now a legendary roadster; one of the biggest fixtures in Mercedes-Benz' catalogue, and the perfect continuation of their ever-evolving Sport-Leicht class.
While it had plenty to write home about, the R230 was most notable for its folding metal hardtop. This remarkably clever bit of kit still feels futuristic today, and thanks to its curvy, long-nosed styling, the entire roadster has aged incredibly well. The smooth 3.7-litre V6 and sophisticated chassis further made for a capable, comfortable cruiser.
This 2003 example has been in the care of its current keeper since July 2015, a tenure of some 11 years. It has been garaged throughout and has reportedly seen very little use in the last three to four years. Recent mechanical attention includes front suspension replacement in 2023, along with a new MAF air sensor and electronic ignition switch. We're informed it runs beautifully with no known faults, and it comes to market with an MOT valid to August 2026 and two keys in hand.WhatsApp Image 2026-04-22 at 13.50.14 (43) John Stephenson.jpeg427.94 KB

✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
✓ Buyers are responsible for vehicle collection
