The Appeal
We love every generation of SL, but the R230’s clever folding hard top sets it apart. No more messing about removing and fitting different roofs, now, at the flick of a switch, buyers got a coupe or convertible perfect for Britain’s four seasons in one day weather.
There are bigger-engined versions, but there’s a strong case to say the 3.7L 245bhp 350SL is really all the R230 you need for weekend wanders or longer trips. This Obsidian Black 350SL has had just four keepers from new and covered a shade over 66,000 documented miles.
The vendor acquired the car in 2024 from a neighbour, who had owned it for 14 years. It had been off the road since COVID, so he carefully recommissioned it using his contacts as a former Mercedes employee. The work by a marque specialist totalled over £4,000 and included new brake callipers and discs, roof and window motors, four new quality Pirelli tyres, new batteries and various trim pieces. That work was done in 2024 and reportedly, 500 miles ago, the engine and gearbox were fully serviced.
The boot lid and bumper have been recently repainted, and the car professionally machine polished and a ceramic coat treatment applied. A thick history file covers all this work and shows full service history by main dealers and specialists. The MOT runs to June 2026.
The vendor says:
“I love the smooth engine and hearing the V6 purr as I drive along. As with the comfort, it makes for a real modern classic, and great tourer.”
