The Appeal
Porsche aficionados can (and often do) spend long periods of time debating which version of the iconic 911 represents the finest example of this timeless model, but for many people, the 997 has the strongest claim. Having replaced the vast majority of parts from the outgoing 996, there is something pure about its understated design, especially when finished in a strong metallic shade.
This particular Carrera 2 is an immediately arresting car, and the current owner reports that it appears to have been treasured by every one of its previous owners. This is attested to with a full service history, a fully stamped service book and a folder full of receipts detailing the work carried out on the car. In the last year alone, this has included ceramic coating, a new exhaust system and water pump, plus replacement engine mounts.
Although the car is in excellent condition, there are a few stone chips at the front and some flaking on a rear alloy wheel. The interior bears a few marks but has no damage to the upholstery, and has worn its years superbly well. The carpets and door cards in particular are in impressive condition, while the dashboard includes the classic five dial display plus a centrally mounted timer.
Mechanically, this 2005 model is largely original bar a couple of sympathetic upgrades including a K&N air induction system and low temperature thermostat. To drive, the owner describes it as “fantastic – loads of power, smooth and sure footed”, with precise steering. Offering performance and roadholding which could run rings round most brand-new cars, it’s a modern classic in the best sense of the phrase.
