The Appeal
The 6th generation of the 911 was arguably the most balanced. The 997 was dedicated to being a people pleaser - refreshed styling that perfectly hit the nostalgic undertones of its lineage, a modernised, sleek cabin and, of course, that ever-charismatic performance. The wheels were larger, but other than that, it pulled much of its hardware over fearlessly - after all, the purists had gotten plenty of time to get used to water cooling by now.
If you're after a 997, though, this is arguably the spec that stands head-and-shoulders. The all-wheel drive Carrera 4S Targa boasted sportier styling, lowered suspension and just a whisker under thirty extra horses. Factor in that achingly cool targa top and you've got a really rather remarkable Porsche that demands attention.
